The Chevy Colorado has spent the past few years making a name for itself. As one of the first mid-size trucks to take advantage of the niche gap in the U.S. market, its sales numbers climbed quickly, earning it a number of awards as well as widespread praise. The Chevrolet Colorado also caused a stir when it introduced its efficient diesel engine option.
Now, the pickup is drawing attention to yet another one of its skill sets: racing. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 hopes to show off its off-roading capability in the Las Vegas Best in the Desert competition.
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will, of course, boast a few upgrades besides just its typical factory settings. The model used to race at the Best in the Desert competition will be getting a full roll cage and racing seats with five-point harnesses, as well as modified Multimatic shocks, racing lights, a 44-gallon fuel tank, and Mud Terrain tires. The Colorado’s base powertrain, with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, will go unchanged.
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 took on the desert from Vegas to Reno on Friday, Aug. 18, to show off its off-roading skills and establish itself as a major option for pickup drivers looking for something a little more capable and fun.
